The Embassy Theatre, located on the seafront of the popular tourist resort of Skegness, is the East Coast’s premier entertainment venue.
Operating all year round with a dedicated team of over 30 people, both full-time and part-time, who have a strong passion for the work they do, along with a team of 10 very willing volunteers, we aim to bring you top class entertainment to enjoy. Our friendly team comprising of those ‘behind the scenes’ within the administration team, the Backstage crew and the Front of House and Hospitality team all strive to deliver a great night out for you in our quest of ‘keeping entertainment live’.
Here at the Embassy Theatre we have been welcoming the stars to Skegness since opening in 1982, some of those stars from the early years still have a strong association with the Theatre, most notably the King of Comedy Ken Dodd, if you haven’t experienced one of Ken’s epic performances then give it a whirl!
We also have Tribute shows, Children’s shows, Pantomimes, West End Musicals, Dramas, Ice Skating and Dance shows.
Hundreds of stars have been ‘treading the boards’ over the years at the Embassy, many of whom have returned time and again as both their popularity and a love of the venue have developed with the Theatre. Many of the artistes appearing comment on the friendliness of the team that is at the hub of the theatre.
Not just the stars come out to play at the Embassy, we also host many other varied events working with the community, most of the local schools use the venue for their end of year speech days, we also hold regular blood donor sessions and the theatre becomes the hub for many varied events such as Get Safe For Summer and the SO Festival along with being the chosen venue for a variety of conferences.
We are always keen to hear your comments, feedback or suggestions for future acts and events at the Theatre, either chat with one of us when you visit or send an email via our contacts page, or you could of course put pen to paper and send a letter!
The team here look forward to welcoming you back to the Embassy Theatre very soon.
The original Embassy building, first known as The Piazza, has stood dominating Grand Parade at Skegness since 1926. The Piazza was owned by Skegness Urban District Council, and was leased to a Mr. Morris. It comprised a huge dance hall. Over the main door and dance floor was a Minstrel Gallery where a small orchestra would play popular music.
In January 1978 Skegness lost its only theatre for major Summer shows when the Pier was destroyed in a storm and the theatre left isolated as an island in the sea.
It was after this that the idea of the Embassy Centre, a multi-purpose conference/exhibition venue was born. The idea eventually came to fruition in December 1982 with the completion of the octagonal auditorium and redevelopment of the original Embassy Ballroom building.
Once again in October 1999 the Embassy underwent a transformation to redevelop the building surrounding the auditorium. The project included a new outdoor pool and chalets, Health & Fitness Suite, letting units and an Arts Room. The complex was officially re-opened by the legendary King Of Comedy, Ken Dodd, who has a very long association with the Embassy, on 3rd August 2000.
Hundreds of stars have shone at the Embassy over the years including: George Formby, Danny La Rue, Des O’Connor, Rod Hull & Emu, Barbara Dickson, David Essex, Norman Wisdom, Ruthie Henshall, Chinese State Circus, Eddie Floyd, Geno Washington, Frankie Vaughan, Eartha Kitt, Alan Carr, The Drifters, Billy Ocean, Al Murray, Lenny Henry, Jim Davidson, Brian Conley, Jimmy Carr, Jason Donovan, Danni Minogue, Joe Pasquale, Peter Andre, Lee Mead and Jools Holland to name just a few
